We had the blessing of hosting Tom, Maria and Melissa Stenger from Hawaii, last week. Tom’s daughter Katy, married Brian Knutson last Friday afternoon in Rochester and they were in town for the festivities of Katy and Brian’s union.
I hadn’t met either Katy or Brian, but had heard a lot about them. Katy is a Political Science Professor at Gustavus College in Saint Peter and Brian is the love of her life. It isn’t often I am a guest at a wedding of a couple whom I’ve never met before and though there was no prior connection, I felt an immediate connection through their commitment to each other. When the wedding began, Brian, with Katy at his side, addressed the entire congregation of guests and asked for our prayers and support now and throughout their marriage. To help them keep in tact, the vows they were about to make. I thought that was beautiful! The ceremony was just as beautiful, presided over by a close friend of Brian’s.
Tom is a long time friend of John’s. They were both raised in Waconia along with George & Mary and a host of many other friends who are still close despite the distance in miles between them. We were all invited to the reception at the Rochester Golf Club, where we were treated to an amazing spread of food and fellowship with friends I knew and new ones I met.
Blessings to Katy and Brian as they begin their lives together as man and wife!
